As part of Chicago’s 2015 Architecture Biennial celebration, the Chicago Cultural Center’s building and courtyard served as the backdrop for Tokyo architecture firm Atelier Bow-wow’s sculptural ‘Piranesi Circus’, installed by Chicago Scenic.

The Piranesi Circus exhibit was perfect for Chicago Scenic as it demanded the precise skills of Chicago Scenic’s ETCP-certified rigging specialists. Bridged stairways, ladder, swing, and balcony are all visible from the building’s internal windows and required detailed planning and challenging maneuvers.

The art project’s additional challenge centered on the building’s status as an historic and protected structure. In response to that, Chicago Scenic’s crews worked vigilantly not only to ensure that the structure was installed securely but also to ensure that during its extended installation the sculpture would remain stable and there would be no damage to the building exterior.
