Between my second and third years of university, one of my friends secured me a well-paid position at an oil and gas processing plant. My job was to kill weeds and gophers, tend the gardens, paint pipes and chuckle at the salty jokes told around the cafeteria table while the microwave laboured away on a series of pizza pops that, in my year-old mind, had come to represent death.

Premier McGuinty announced the following Deputy Minister appointments, effective immediately unless otherwise noted:
- Kevin Costante as Deputy Minister of Northern Development and Mines, effective July 21, Mr. Costante is currently the Deputy Minister and Associate Secretary of the Cabinet, Policy, in Cabinet Office. Mr. Costante was formerly the Deputy Minister of Community and Social Services and Deputy Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities. He has also served as the Assistant Deputy Minister, Program Management, and Assistant Deputy Minister, Social Assistance and Employment Opportunities, Community and Social Services. He has held a number of senior executive positions in the ministries of Community and Social Services, and Treasury and Economics. In Saskatchewan he worked in the departments of Finance and Education, and at the Employment Development Agency. Mr. Costante has a BA (Honours) and a Master of Public Administration from Queen's Univers
