Eu nunca havia prestado muita atenção à música de Iggy Pop até assistir ao filme “Trainspotting” de 1996, dirigido por Danny Boyle. Quando a música Lust for Life aparece no filme foi para mim o seu momento mais memorável. Só depois disso eu resolvi garimpar a carreira de Iggy Pop.

A canção foi composta por Iggy Pop e David Bowie em 1977 e fez parte do disco homônimo de Iggy, lançado no mesmo ano. Bowie, admirador de Iggy, deu um grande apoio à sua carreira solo, produziu o álbum e ajudou-o a reerguer-se das cinzas depois do fim dos Stooges.

A música tem vigor e urgência, no filme ilustra uma correria do personagem Renton (Ewan McGregor). Seu ritmo frenético, a música começa com sons de bateria, foi baseado no som de chamada de uma rádio da forças armadas dos EUA. Sua letra fala de drogas, embora proclame “um desejo (ou t….) pela vida” e tem referências à obra do poeta beatnik William Burroughs.
