Interview with Rodolfo Andaur

Gestionar Desplazamientos or ‘Managing New Displacements from Geography’ is a curatorial project initiated by an independent curator from the Republic Chile, Rodolfo Andaur (Iquique, 1979). On its 3rd edition in 2018, the project featured participants of more than thirty curators, researchers and visual artists, and was organized as a space for dialogue and debate on geographical issues, especially in northern Chile. The participants included from countries like Germany, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Spain, France, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, England and Switzerland. Gestionar Desplazamientos is a curatorial project that places territorial exploration as its main activity. Several deserts and sites in the northern part of Chile were explored during this project. At the same time, discussions and seminars were carried out involving artists, curators, historians and anthropologists. Gestionar Desplazamientos was held for 2 weeks, starting in the cities of Santiago and Valparaiso, before then some of its activities took place in the northern regions of Chile such as Iquique, Pica, Pisagua and La Tirana.

We will never get tired visiting the province of Laguna. It’s not enough that we were there countless of times for a variety of reasons, mostly driven by our curiosity on what is there to learn and to experience. One of the things that is attracting us back for those spontaneous and unplanned trips to this province is the journey going there via a winding path carved out from the slopes of the Sierra Madre.
In our regular days, we waste at least two hours in traffic going to work in Makati or to the malls in Ortigas. As compared when going to Laguna, we experience the same amount of travel time via the Manila East Road while enjoying the sights on both sides of the road with scenery enhanced by the dense forest and by the Laguna de Bay. Seventeen of Laguna’s town and a city sit along the shore of Laguna de Bay -the largest lake in country and from which the province received its name.
