George Rickey performed many roles throughout his long, peripatetic life. Born in Indiana in 1907 but raised in Scotland, he studied at Oxford and travelled Europe as a student, also studying at the Académie André Lhote and Académie Moderne in Paris. Returning to the United States, he taught art at various schools across the country before he was drafted in 1942.
